This gravestone is now illegible. It was read in 1912 and what follows is that reading:

"In memory of Nathaniel Sawyer who was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on March 12, 1757 and departed this life on March 11, 1813 aged 56 years. He was a man of undaunted courage and was a soldier in the Revolution. He was one of the pioneers in the wilds of Ohio and shared the danger of frontier settlement through a long and bloody Indian War. He was a kind, affectionate and industrious parent. ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall see God’.”

He was the husband of Lydia Porter and the father of Nathaniel, Lydia, Sarah, Leonard, Porter, Mary Frances, Harriet, John Leonard, Benair Clement and Samuel Thompson. He was the son of John Sawyer and Abigail Thompson.
