Eugene J. "Gene" Uricoli Jr. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the age of 81.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, N.J. 07013, (973) 546-2000. Funeral services will start from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, South Center Street, Orange, N.J. 07050 at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J.

Gene was residing in the Providence Marianwood Nursing Home in Issaquah, Wash. Prior to that, he lived in Pine Brook, N.J., but spent most of his life in his birth town of Orange, N.J. Gene was born on Christmas Day in 1929.

Born the youngest child to Eugenio and Mary (DeSantis) Uricoli, Gene was predeceased by his brothers, Alphonse and Biaggio, and sister, Pauline. He graduated from Orange High School in 1947 and married Patricia Crinigan in May 1952; together they raised their family of seven children on North Center Street in Orange.

He joined the Orange Police Department in 1955 and in 1970 was promoted to the chief of police. As a police chief, Gene was instrumental in starting the "DARE" drug program and helping to improve the City of Orange. He loved the City of Orange and he loved helping others who could not help themselves. After Gene left the police department, he became an accomplished private investigator until his retirement.

His wife, Patricia, passed away in 1994, while residing in Pine Brook, N.J. He was a lifetime avid clock collector and spent many hours listening to and winding his clocks. Whether it was a car filled with his family, with his wife or by himself, Gene loved to go for "get lost rides." He was known to drive for hours just to visit a friend or a special destination.

Gene married Jo Manning in 2003 and resided in Pine Brook until moving with Jo to her home state of Washington in 2010. He loved their pet dogs and continued to bring them on car rides on a regular basis. Gene was devoted to his wife.

Gene is survived by his second wife, Clara Jo Manning; his children and their spouses, Eugene III and Judy Uricoli, Christine (Uricoli) and Edward Turkot, Paul and Karen Uricoli, Daniel and Genine Uricoli, William and Ursula Uricoli, David Uricoli and Frank McDonough, and Neil and Wendy Uricoli; step-children, Kurt and Lisa Manning, and John and Janel Manning; his grandchildren, Michael Turkot, Patricia Turkot Taormina, Daniel Uricoli Jr., Paul Uricoli, Catherine Uricoli, Sophia Uricoli, Neil Crinigan Uricoli; step-grandsons, Andrew and Thomas Goetschkes, and Archer Manning, and great-granddaughter, Vivianne Christine Taormina. Also surviving Gene is his dear sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie "Mimi" (Biaggio) Uricoli.
