Maria Carmen Guirado, called Carmen, was the daughter of Jose Guirado, originally of Barcelona, Spain, and Maria Ysabel Botillo of Mexico.
She married Captain James Johnson in Sonora, Mexico. Carmen's parents were brought to California along with Capt. Johnson, his wife, and their children, ca 1833. Capt. Johnson died in 1847. Carmen lived with her sister, Maria "Nieves" (Guirado) Bell, after his death and with her daughter and son-in-law, Adelaida and Francis ("Frank") Mellus, in 1860.
