Ollie Mae Messer Arrowood is now unshackled from her Earthly chains and is united with her heavenly Father forevermore. She departed this life surrounded by her loving family and in the place she called home Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, following a short illness. She was a daughter of the late Grady and Lula Davis Messer, born to them July 23, 1933, in Old Fort. Never able to just sit around, following her retirement from Baxter Healthcare, she decided she wanted to bless her elderly friends by caring for them and cooking them meals and taking them around on errands and appointments. And she wasn't only a blessing to them, she was a blessing to her family, whom she loved dearly and they loved her. She was a very active member of her beloved church, Victory Temple Full Gospel Church, and her church family will miss her very much. Two brothers, Dean and James Messer, preceded her in death. Ollie Mae leaves five children behind, Shannon Arrowood and husband, Bobby, of Marion, Rev. Randy Arrowood and wife, Dawn, of Old Fort, Diane Lytle and husband, Jim, of Marion, Steve Arrowood and wife, Kim, of Marion and Tim Arrowood, of Marion; a brother, Paul Messer, of Marion; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her homegoing will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel, with the Revs. Pete McCombs and Randy Arrowood officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Victory Temple Cemetery. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider Hospice of McDowell County at 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752
