Edward W. Candee was a successful business man in Norwalk, CT. He was the son of Evelina Weed and Julius Alonzo Candee of New York. He married Helen Hungerford and had two children: Edith and Harold Churchill Candee. In the 1890s Helen and Edward Candee were involved in a divorce and custody battle, ending with Mr. Edward W. Candee sharing custody of the two children.

"Edward Willis Candee of the firm of Candee & Smith died on Tuesday of pneumonia at his home, 237 West Fifty-first Street. Mr. Candee was a veteran of the Seventh Regiment and a member of the Manhattan Club and the Wee Burn Golf Club."
