AXTON, Va. - Apostle Joseph H. Adams, 76, of 276 Sandy River Road, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at UNC Chapel Hill.

Born Aug. 6, 1926, in Cascade, he was a son of Joseph Richard Adams and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Adams.
He lived all of his life in Axton. He was the pastor and founder of Bethel United Way of the Cross Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Hairston Adams of the residence; five daughters, Shirley A. (Ronald) Harris of Greensboro, N.C., Brenda A. (Patrick) Ephriam of Wake Forest, N.C., Drucilla A. (Donald) Williams of Martinsville, Reva A. (Archellua) Bell of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Bonnie A. (Marvin) Martin of Axton; two sisters, Carrie L. Eggleston of Cascade and Maggie Jane Murrell of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Bishop Richard Adams of Cascade and two aunts, Clora Smith Boyd and Mary Smith Adams, both of Cascade.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Waddell Adams and John S. Adams.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Way of the Cross Church with Bishop James Carter officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The body will be laid out at the church Sunday at 5 p.m. The family will be at the home at other times.

Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
