Reta was the 5th daughter born to Carl & Lena Stewart and was known to many as "Skeeter". She was born, at home, in Hamburg, Arkansas. Her family moved to the Oregon coast when she was infant and she remained there for the rest of her life. She attended Marshfield High in Coos Bay, Oregon.

She was married to Johnny Basham in 1968 and together they had 2 children, Eric & Christy.

Reta was a very fun-loving-positive and happy person who had a flair for life. She loved the ocean and old time wooden boats. She has worked as a doctor's assistant, anesthesiologist assistant and on an assembly line at a crab factory. She enjoyed experiencing all areas of life. She finally settled in a career as an under-writer for an insurance company. She loved writing up policies, as it gave her a chance to meet people from all walks of life.

She always loved her first and middle name (Reta Joyce), as she said that combining the two gave her the word: "Rejoice" which certainly describes just how she lived.

She was a member of the Church of God 7th Day in Coos Bay, Oregon.

In 2010 she was diagnosed with Rectal cancer and after undergoing radiation/chemo treatments, she became cancer free. Shortly thereafter, shadows in her Liver prompted her to again begin chemo treatments, which continued for the next 2 years. And even on her worse days, she fought with a positive attitude that she would beat it.

In November, she and her daughter made the trip back to Arkansas to visit her family, intending on returning to Oregon, but 3 days after arriving, she was taken to the ER and admitted to the Critical Care Unit. Reta fought hard, but lost her battle on Nov. 19, 2012.

None of us realized when she had come home to visit that she came home to stay.

She will be missed by so many that loved her. She leaves behind a son and daughter, her mother, 5 sisters, 1 brother and twin grand-daughters.
