Son of Christopher Columbus and Lucy Victoria (Ross) Chatham; married first to Adeline Matilda Blanton with whom he had two daughters, Gessie (or Gretchen) (1876-1877) and Dorothy; married 2nd to Mary Lillian Chenoweth who were the parents of Jesse, Herbert, Martha, Grace and Lucy.

JUDGE CHATHAM IS BURIED AT NOGALES

NOGALES, April 17, - Funeral services were held this afternoon for Judge J. J. Chatham, pioneer resident of Nogales and editor of The Patagonian at Patagonia, Arizona, who died here yesterday after a long illness. Judge Chathtam was born in Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 21, 1848. He engaged in newspaper work in Olathe, Kansas City, Coffeyville and Independence, Kansas; Joplin and Galena, Mo. and Cherryville, Kas., and Tucson, Ariz., where he was connected with The Star and The Citizen. He was editor of the Tombstone Epitaph in the palmy days of that one time rich mining camp. Later he published the Nogales Daily Reserve and in 1888 the Nogales, Sunday Herald. He was connected at different times with the Nogales Oasis and Nogales Daily Herald.
He was city clerk of Joplin, Mo.; sergeant at arms in the Kansas house of representatives, assistant chief of police of Olathe, Kansas and postmaster of Nogales. He served as a member of the Knights of Pythias, Tucson B.P.O.E. and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He leaves a widow and five children. Funeral services were in charge of the Elks.
