During WWII she was a United Service Organization (USO) member and entertainer, serving at Fort Hancock and Fort Dix, NJ. She also worked at American Transformer Co. in Newark, NJ as a procurer of transformer materials for overseas communication equipment. During the war she served as a Civilian Air Raid Warden on the graveyard shift in the residential areas of East Orange, NJ. She also was a model at the New York and Miami Gibson Modeling Agency.
She married and moved to Ocala in 1946. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ocala, FL, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and for many years was a member of the Pioneer Garden Club, Ocala Women's Club, Marion Co. Legal Secretaries Assn., Florida Judicial Assistants Assn., and a 1950 charter member of the First Ocala Coin and Stamp Club.
Mrs. Carpenter was predeceased in 1977 by her husband of 31 years, Rudolph L. Carpenter, a Marion Co. Cattleman and Farmer.
Her survivors include her sons Barry L. Carpenter of Marshall, VA, Steven C. Carpenter of Madison, FL and Ronald R. Carpenter of Ocala, FL; daughter Anna Southwell Boyd of Vail, CO; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11am. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, FL.
