Helen A.Sandersfeld was born July 22, 1922, to Rev. Otto and Lena(Blume)Beer in Sao Leopoldo, Brazil, where her parents served as church missionaries. The family returned to the United States in 1930, and they eventually settled in Homestead, Iowa in 1938. After graduating from Marengo High School, Helen worked for a local attorney and at the Iowa County Court House. Helen was united in marriage to Waldemar(Wally)Sandersfeld on October 5, 1947, at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. They made their home in rural Homestead, where they raised their three sons, John, Tom and Charles. Helen enjoyed serving on the St. John's Ladies Aid, Tuesday afternoon bowling in Williamsburg and watching sports of all kinds, especially the Cubs. Helen lived in Williamsburg from 2002 until 2011, when she became a resident at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Helen died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 90 years.

She is survived by her son: Thomas R.(Jerilyn)Sandersfeld of Iowa City; two brothers: Herb(Amanda)Beer of Cedar Rapids and Martin(Jo)Beer of Iowa City; four sisters: Paula Sandersfeld of North English, Norma Mollison and Sylvia Taulbee both of Minneapolis, MN and Lois Dunnavent of Harrisburg, PA; a brother-in-law: Vernon(Esther)Sandersfeld of Homestead; two daughters-in-law: Sandra Sandersfeld of Sioux Falls, SD and Barbara Sandersfeld Denison(Eric) of North English; four grandchildren: Erin(Matt)Nosbisch, Thyler Sandersfeld, Justin Sandersfeld and Shaelyn Sandersfeld; two great grandchildren: Rainey and Trice Nosbisch, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wally, two sons: John and Charles(Chuck)and two sisters: Dorothea and Esther.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2 pm Sunday, November 25, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Pastor Terry Small will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jonhn Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday November 24, 2012 from 4-6 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
