Isaac Douglass (Ike) Franklin of Columbus, MS died November 15, 2012, at Juniper Village Assisted Living in Aurora, CO.

The funeral service is Sunday, December 2nd at 2:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus with the Reverend Ann Harris, Rector of St. Paul's, officiating. Visitation will be held at 1:30 PM in the Earline Robertson Room at St. Paul's prior to the service and also following the service at the home of Arden and Kevin Mason in Aberdeen, MS.

The son of the late Mildred Heard Franklin and Isaac Douglass Franklin, Sr., Mr. Frankin was born July 18, 1924 in Aberdeen, MS. In the 1930's, his family moved to Jackson, MS, where he attended Central High School and was a member of R.O.T.C.

At 19, he enlisted in the Naval Air Force and trained to be a night fighter pilot, flying off aircraft carriers during WWII. Following WWII, he attended Mississippi State University (MSU) and graduated with a BA in business.

On November 23, 1950, he married Julia Wade Kochtitzky of Columbus, MS and settled in Columbus permanently. Ike taught flying lessons at Columbus Air Force Base before deciding to go into farming full time. He bought land in the prairie and farmed in Lowndes County until his retirement in 1990. Prior to his retirement, he served four years as a member of the State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee (ASCS). He was briefly a member of the Rotary Club of Columbus. He was also a member of the Sipping and Seafood Supper Club, Lowndes County Marching and Chowder Society, and Magowah Gun and Country Club. His wife of 60 year, Julia Wade, passed away January 21, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Evans of Denver, CO; his daughter and son-in-law, Arden and Kevin Mason of Aberdeen, MS; his niece Jennie Quinn Szaltis, of Jacksonville, FL; his nephews, Wade Quinn of Madison, MS; and Rod Kochtitzky of Nashville, TN.
