The newest National Votes for Women Trail marker was dedicated May 21st, 2022 in the rolling hills outside West Chester Pennsylvania. The marker honors Jean Kane Foulke, who trained 15 women at a time at Bala Farm during World War I. Women enlisted in the Women's Land Army to learn farming to help get crops off the fields while the men were off fighting. After George Foulke's death at age 34, Jean managed her dairy farm, raised her children and worked for women's suffrage. Her daughter Jean Kane Foulke duPont was also an active suffragist and lived in Delaware. This farmhouse was also a Quaker boarding school for boys and used on the Underground Railroad. Thank you to the National Collaborative for Women's History Sites and the William G Pomeroy Foundation for providing the funding for the Trail Marker.
