Henry was born in Big Bug, Arizona. A very small mining town in the late 1890's where he father was a miner. His parents then moved to Guanajuato, Mexico where he spent much of his childhood.

In 1913, Henry and his brother Oscar arrived at the Galveston Texas port from Vera Cruz Mexico. Family story has it that they came to attend school in New York.

In 1920, Henry was listed as Henry J. McCormack and living in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He was living with his stepfather Robert McCormack, mother Margarite (Margaret), brother Oscar, and half sisters Margarite and Josephine.

In 1928 he married Miss Mayme Odell Baker in McCamey, Upton County, Texas.

In 1930 he was living in McCamey, Upton County, Texas with his wife Mayme.
