He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Bears and Clara Hamilton Bears Roberts, his step-father, Cary Roberts; an infant son, Martin Lee, a granddaughter, Paige Gard; a sister, Marvis Bears Slagle; and a brother, William (Bill) Bears.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home, children, Chris Bears, Omaha, NE, Michael Bears, Skidmore, MO, Jean Bears Reed, Maryville, MO, Betty Bears Gard, Maitland, MO, Ed Bears, Savannah, MO, David Bears, Maryville, MO, John Bears, Maryville, MO, Sue Bears Peve, Hopkins, MO; 23 grandchildren 8 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters, Bettie Bears Skelton, Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and Alyce Roberts Green of Plattsmouth, NE, and brothers, Robert (Bob) Bears, Liberty, MO, Darwin Bears, Macon, MO, Leon Roberts, Newnan, GA, and Bruce Roberts, Skidmore, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Bears attended Rising Sun country school in Holt County and graduated from Maitand High School, Maitland, Missouri, in 1951.
He served in the United States Army and retired from the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed raising, breaking and riding horses and was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church.
Eldon's body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. The inurnment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, MO.
Military Rites will be performed at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Laura Street Baptist Church building fund. Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
