MARY LOUISE DELONG

Page 89 - Mary Louise Delong, born 20 February 1870, at Nero, Johnson County, Kentucky, the third child and the first daughter, of William Isaac & Rebecca (Alley) Delong. According to family tradition grandmother was hoeing corn on a hillside, when (she) went into labor, and before they could get her to the house Mary Louise was born.

Mary Louise was age 18 when Grandfather died in 1888, and she may have married near the time that Grandmother died in 1895. Her #1 Husband, and father of all her children was John Henry Arrowood, born ca 1874, Johnson County and died 23 September 1963, Thealka, Johnson County, Ky. John Henry was a brother to Mary Etta Arrowood that married David P. Delong.

I do not know how long John Henry and Mary Louise remained with her smaller brothers and a sister at the home-place on John's Creek. Her services would have been needed at least until her brother, David P. & Mary Etta moved in sometime prior to 1901, the year Hershell was born. It's known that all six children of John Henry & Mary Louise were born in Johnson County, Kentucky.

Sometime between 1907 & 1916 John Henry & Mary Louise removed to New Boston, Ohio, for their first grandchild was born 5 June 1916 in New Boston, Ohio. Mary Louise not only helped for a few years to raise her younger brothers & a sister, but she raised six children of her own and when her daughter, Pearl, died in 1927 she finished raising Pearl's six children.
