Phil was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mount Gideon Baptist Church until his death. Phil was married to the late Juliana Paul Bessix for 53 years.
Religious services will be at Mount Gideon Baptist Church in Maringouin, conducted by the Rev. Thomas N. Bessix. Entombment in the church cemetery. Hall Davis and Sons Mortuary is in charge of funeral services.
He leaves to cherish his memory six daughters, Georgia and husband Donald Hardesty, of Baton Rouge, Barbara and husband Oscar Williams, and Gail Bessix Windham, all of Port Allen; Deborah Bessix Blakes, of Baton Rouge; Doris and husband James Trotter, of Baker; and Phillis and husband Thomas Herbert, of Gonzales; a son, Phillip Bessix III and wife Angela, of Prairieville;
four sisters, five brothers, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, godchild, Nadia Sam; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Phillip was preceded in death by his loving wife, Juliana Paul Bessix; parents, Lucille Nero Bessix and Phillip Bessix Sr.; brother, Isaac Bessix; sister, Sadie Bessix Anderson; an infant son and a great-grandson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Boedefield and the CICU staff along with nurses, Ryan and Dara from the fourth floor for the care provided during his stay in the hospital.
