Mrs. Peter A. Collins, 89, Buried Thursday, June 1: Melissa Ellen, daughter of William and Mary Ryan Crow, was born in Kendalltown, March 17, 1861 and grew to womanhood there. After completing her studies in the local school she attended Platteville Normal and received her teacher's certificate. For several years she taught in the Cleary district school near Blanchardville. In the year 1883 [Correction:1886, 23 Nov 1886], she was united in marriage to Peter A. Collins and they settled on the Collins farm two miles west of Mineral Point.
Nine children were born to them of whom two, Earl and John died at the tender ages of three and seven years respectively. One daughter, Mrs. Charles Jackson preceded her mother in death last January 6th. Mr. Collins passed away Sept. 28, 1916 and six years later Mrs. Collins left the farm to take her home in Mineral Point.
After an extended illness death came as a blessed relief to Mrs. Collins in St. Joseph's Hospital, Dodgeville, May 29, 1950. She had attained the advanced age of 89 years, 2 months and 12 days.
Mrs. Collins was a good mother and neighbor, very loyal and devoted to her family, the members of which she had served long and well.
Funeral services were held on Thursday morning, June 1st at St. Paul's Catholic church in Mineral Point withe the Rev. Fr. Paul S. Croke officiating, and burial made in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Collins is survived by six children: Leo of Mineral Point, Dr. Clarence P. Collins and Miss Mae Collins of Kenosha, Joseph of Janesville, Francis of Oakland, Calif. and Mrs. George J. Harris of Dodgeville, also grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.
