For years, as a young man, he would split his time between working at the Chevrolet Gear & Axle plant and watchmaking when he got home from the plant. He worked at the Chevrolet Gear & Axle Plant from 1926 to 1945. Some nights he would come home and his hands were to sore to work on watches.
In 1946, Mr. Hook left the Chevrolet plant and opened Hook's Jewelry in Detroit MI. on Joy Road near Southfield. When the store opened the front windows were boarded up due to the fact that all glass making supplies had gone to the war effort. He retired in 1975 and his son moved the business to Novi MI. in 1976. Cecil continued to work at the store, a few hours a day until his death. He was a member of the Michigan Watchmakers Guild.
