Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company I, 62nd New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Wilderness, Virginia on May 5, 1864. His citation reads "Voluntarily rushed back into the enemy's lines, took the colors from the color sergeant, who was mortally wounded, and, although himself wounded, carried them through the fight". His Medal was awarded to him on January 14, 1890.
