Anton Wagner Sr., a life-long resident of Hazleton, who suffered an injury of the skull due to a fall down a flight of steps at his home, 56 South Cedar street, a few days ago, died at the State Hospital from the injuries at 2:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Wagner was one of this city's best known residents and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Wagner, pioneer settlers here. His father built the Wagner House block on East Broad street, one of the first brick buildings in that section of town. Mr. Wagner worked for years at the Wagner House and later was chef for the Hazleton Sextette Club for a number of years. He also served at the Palace Cafe, Duplan Silk Mill, Sager's Bowling Alleys and other places in this city. "Tony", as he was more familiarly known, had a wide acquaintance throughout the Hazleton region. He had not been in the best of health prior to his fatal injury.
He is survived by his wife, formerly Katherine Smith and the following children: Alvin, Earl, Violet, and Mrs. Fred Kirchdoerfer, of Hazleton; Anton Jr., of Shenandoah, a brother, August Wagner, of Lansford, and nine grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon and will be strictly private. Rev. F.T. Esterly, of the Christ Lutheran church, will preside. Interment will be in the Vine street cemetery.
