Chester Ingals Conn, active in many civic affairs and in construction and investment firms during his 37 years of residence in Portland, died Sunday. Mr. Conn who was 64, collapsed while he was attending an open house function as an activity of the Arts and Crafts guild. He was secretary of the Hoffman Construction company, the Forest Investment company, the Wauna Land company, a director of the Sawyer Service, Inc., and also served as manager of the 2141 N.W. Davis street apartments.
After coming to Portland in 1917 he was associated several years with the Alec C. Rae accounting firm as a certified public accountant. He joined the Hoffman company in 1926 as a bookkeeper.
He served many years as treasurer and member of the board of the Boy Scouts, and was director of the Goodwill Industries. He was a member of Portland lodge 55 of Masons and of the University club.
Mr. Conn was born May 24, 1890, at Woburn, Mass., and was graduated from Tufts college in 1910.
He leaves the widow, Winogene, at the home, 2148 S.W. Edgewood road; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Geisler, Portland; a sister, Miss Ethel Conn; and four grandchildren. A son, Capt. Robert I Conn, was killed in an airplane crash in Africa during World War II.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at The Little Chapel of the Chimes. Dr. Paul S. Wright, pastor of First Presbyterian church, of which Mr. Conn was a member, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery.
