John enlisted in the Virginia Infantry when he was 18 ,on April 17th 1861. He was wounded at Petersburg , Virginia on July 30th, 1861
After the war he became a teacher.
John and his wife Anna had children Lucy, George , Hattie and Julian Colgate Hines Jr.

Julian Colgate Hines died this morning at 1 o'clock at Lily Dale where he has resided for the last 4 years, aged 81 years. Mr. Hines was a native of Virginia . but came to Lily Dale 4 years ago. He leaves his wife Sarah Hines at Lily Dale and a son in New Jersey. The time of the funeral will be announced later.

His obit doesn't mention any daughters but I am sure that also living in Lily Dale were his daughter Lucy Hines Wykcoff and Hattie Hines. Hattie moved to North Carolina and passed away 1954 Hope I got this right.
