"Dies in hospital-Joseph E. Lacey, 88, ex-mayor of Pratt City

Joseph Edward Lacey, 88, 1553 Graymont av. w, died Friday night at a local hospital.
He suffered a stroke Tuesday night.
MR. LACEY was mayor of Pratt City two terms before its annexation to Birmingham. He was alderman for several terms before annexation. He was a member of the Jefferson County board of education several terms. He also served as alderman of the city of Birmingham when Birmingham had that form of government.
He was a Mason, Shriner and a member of several other fraternal organizations. He received a 50-year pin from the Masonic Order last year.
He was a charter member of the original civil service board of Birmingham. He served as a member of the board of stewards of Pratt City Methodist Church for 17 years.
Mr. Lacey was born at Seale, Russell County.
SURVIVING ARE TWO daughters, Mrs. W. L. Adams of Atlanta, and Mrs. L. M. Bonds of Birmingham; a son, Joe E. Lacey Jr. of Birmingham; two grandsons, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Pratt City Methodist Church. The body will like in state for an hour at Angwin Mortuary in Ensley. Burial will be at Elmwood. Pallbearers will be nephews."
