Lynna Rae Smith of Mt. Vernon died Dec. 1 at her home following a long battle with cancer. She was 52.

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Living Word Christian Center in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Sharon Miller officiating.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 5, 1952, to Eldon and Freda (Elliott) Montee in Independence, Mo.

After her marriage to Jay C. Smith on Sept. 12, 1967 in Independence, they moved to Grant County in 1968. She worked as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Forest Service for 28 years before retiring early this year due to the illness.

She enjoyed shoping, reading, tole painting and other crafting things.

Survivors include her husband, Jay C.; one daughter, Jaylene Schultz of Payette, Idaho; mother Freda Montee of Kansas; two sisters, Sherida Pyle and Tracy Goodwin of Kansas; one brother, Greg Montee of Kansas; and two grandchildren.
