L.N. Rhodes, 77, Dies At Dayton

Funeral Will Be Held Tomarrow, Born Near Edom

L.N. Rhodes well known retired farmer and life long resident of Rockingham County died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 at his home in Dayton after a lingering illness, death was due to complications.

Mr. Rhodes suffered a stroke of paralysis several years ago and had been confined to his home.

Last Thursday he took a sudden turn for the worse and since that time no hope had been entertained for his recovery.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from his late home. Services will be conducted by the Rev. O.D. Lambert of the Methodist Church.

Interment will be in the Linville Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Estep, Abe Kick, Clarence Furr, Stark Caricofe, Dick Carver and Arch Ruff. Flower girls will be members his Sunday School class of the Dayton Methodist Church.

Mr. Rhodes was born Jan. 25, 1856 near Edom and was the son of the late Anthony and Hannah Rhodes.

He spent his early life in the Edom community before moving to near Dayton.

He was engaged in farming until several years ago when he retired on account of failing health.

Mr. Rhodes was well known in the Edom and Dayton communities as well as in Harrisonburg. He was a man of fine character and had a host of friends.

Mr. Rhodes wds a life-long member of the Methodist Church and always took a very active part in all religious affairs. He was also always '"Willing to lend a helping hand to any other worthwhile civic movement to the communities where he lived.

In 1885 Mr. Rhodes married Miss. Rebecca Zirkle who survives him. Besides his wife he is survived by daughters, Mrs. Lee Bush, of Front Royal, and Mrs. Rodney Lankford. of Dover, Pa., two sons, Zirkle Rhodes, of California, and Hunter M. Rhodes, of Heishey, Pa.; three sisters; Mrs.Minnie Atichson, of Linville, Mrs. Etta Depoy, of Linville, and Mrs. Ida Driver, of Hinton, two brothers, Frank Rhodes of Linville, and Charles Rhodes of Harrisonburg, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
