Libby Peurifoy was the third of five children and the only daughter born to Lillian and Clarence Peurifoy. Her brothers were "Buck",
"Doc", "Pat" and "Bobby".
She is survived by her brother Raymond "Pat" Peurifoy of Laurinburg, NC, three nephews, Jeff, Edward, and Robert, and five nieces, Rebecca, Patricia, Sandra, Mary Jane and Karen Elizabeth.
To her family she was known as Lib but her friends called her "Libby".

For many years she was the friend and companion to Fred Bertram.

Being a self-made individual, Elizabeth graduated from Concord High School, Concord, NC in 1936. She earned a commercial certificate from Greensboro College in 1937. In 1942, Elizabeth joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, which later became the Women's Army Corps and finally the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1943, she attended Officer Candidate School and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. She was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Captain. Taped interviews chronicling Elizabeth's military career are housed in the Library of Congress Veterans Project.

In 1950, following her military service Elizabeth earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. In 1953, she earned a Master's Degree from Columbia Teachers College.

Libby, as she is known to her multitude of friends, led a distinguished career in Education. She served with the Board of Education in Maumee, Ohio, at Columbia University while completing her Master's Degree, and at Teacher's College. She was employed for 20 years as a Pupil Personnel and Guidance Specialist in District 108 in Highland Park, Illinois.

With her expertise as a teacher and her dedication to Education, Libby organized a Washington, DC tour for middle school students where she introduced them for many years to the Nation's Capitol through a living history experience.

After completing her career in Education in 1978, Libby retired and relocated to Flagler Beach, Florida where she continued to share her leadership gifts. She served as President of the Flagler Woman's Club where she became a lifetime member. She was the President of the American Cancer Society for Flagler County and a member of its Board of Directors. She served multiple tenures as President of the Ocean Palm Villas North Condo Association. She actively campaigned to persuade the LPGA to select Daytona Beach as their world headquarters where it now stands today.

In 2004, she was a recipient of the Leadership Award for the State of Florida presented by Enterprising Women's Leadership Institute of Florida.

Always a valued friend, Libby was known for her benevolent acts as a caregiver. She provided transportation to medical appointments and respite care to overextended family members. Libby's philanthropic and charitable acts were well known by those who knew her best.

Libby was an accomplished golfer and avid bridge player. She was a lifelong teacher, a groundbreaker and an encourager. All who shared her friendship were made richer by knowing her.
