Death of Oscar Abbey


Oscar Abbey, well-known life-long resident of Canajoharie, died at 7:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 123 Cliff Street, where he had been confined by illness since January. He was born in Canajoharie March 17, 1873, a son of P. S. and Nancy Van Ettan Abbey. In 1921 and 1922 he held the position of fire chief in this village and had also served as police commissioner. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.


Mr. Abbey is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Zimmerman; one son, Charles F. Abbey; one daughter, Mrs. Floyd B. Coppernoll, and one sister, Mrs. William Abeling, all of Canajoharie, as well as two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, with the Rev. Frank H. Shimer, pastor St. Mark's Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
