TWIN FALLS - Maxine Alta Anderson, 62, of Twin Falls, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, due to injuries sustained in a tragic motorcycle accident. A beautiful, classy lady we were proud to call mom, grandma and friend was taken away from us just as she had finally made her life her own.
Maxine was born Sept. 5, 1950, and graduated from high school in Nampa where she was on the swimming and volleyball teams. She attended Hollywood Beauty College, where she earned her cosmetology license.
Maxine married her first love, Lee Anderson, in Reno, Nevada on Nov. 17, 1969, just after he left the Navy. Their daughter, Dawn, was born on Thanksgiving Day 1973. In 1976, Maxine moved to Twin Falls due to Lee's transfer. Her son, Christopher, was born May 4, 1978. Shortly after, her mother-in-law, Margaret Anderson, came to live with them. She and Lee built a house in Filer to accommodate their larger family.
Maxine worked at Juan's College of Hair Design as a cosmetology instructor from 1976 to 1993. After leaving Juan's, she worked at Escape Salon for several years before moving back into the school scene by becoming the cosmetology instructor at the newly opened D&L Academy.
Soon after her son Christopher's unexpected passing in 2000, Maxine decided to give her dream of attending college a try. She attended the College of Southern Idaho full time for one year and was named to the president's list for her outstanding grades. We were so very proud of her accomplishment!
Nat-Soo-Pah and Yachats, Ore.! These were mom and dad's favorite places to go. Always on the trip to Yachats, they would visit mom's much loved aunt and uncle, Bill and Arlean Cooper, who were like parents to her. I can't remember a year as a child when we didn't visit the coast. Once the grandkids were born, Mom and Dad enjoyed renting a large house and taking the family to the Oregon Coast to experience the beauty and time with family. They loved playing in the sand and surf with their grandkids.
Food! Mom was an amazing cook and nothing made her happier than cooking for family and friends, especially fresh seafood while on the coast.
When Mom moved to Twin Falls after dad's passing in 2010, she was blessed to have the most wonderful neighbor a person could ask for, Charlie. Mom and Charlie were two peas in a pod! They both loved their flowers and gardening. With this common interest, an amazing friendship was born.
Mom also had many other friends that lived in Country Villa; every Tuesday, Debbie, Marcia, Pat and Ruthie came over to her house for lunch and a few hours of the card game, Rummy. Recently her granddaughter, McKayla, became a member of the group and she very much enjoyed being able to spend more time with her. (And McKayla wouldn't miss a card day if at all possible; her ladies were her priority!)
Mom loved spending time with family and friends; she was such a social butterfly! In November 2012, mom was blessed to have met Brent Thompson. Brent treated mom like a princess and she was so very happy.
Apparently mom had always had a secret fascination for motorcycles - there must have been just a little bit of a wild girl in that conservative woman we all knew. She absolutely loved all the excursions she and Brent took on his Harley trike. They had so many trips planned that she was looking forward to. She had finally found true bliss after all of her losses.
Never was there a person she would not help, from her students to her friends and family, she was always right there to ask what she could do. When no answer was given, she would just do what she thought might help someone.
Mom adored her grandchildren. She was so tickled when her grandsons, Kameron and Braden, would give her rides in their sports cars, come over to help her with yard work, put together whatever new object she had bought or just hang Christmas lights. The only thing she really ever wanted was time and pictures to capture the wonderful moments.
Those preceding Maxine in death were her father, Floyd; and brother, Clifford Case, who drowned in a boating accident in 1956; her beautiful sister, Veta (1978); her beloved son, Christopher (2000; her mother, Bessie Mayer (2002); and her loving husband, Lee (2010). Mom had so much tragedy in her life, but she persevered and she had just found her happiness when this tragedy struck.
Maxine's survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Steve Orr; her beautiful granddaughters, McKayla Luper, Courtney and Baylee Orr, and Brittany Strunk; her wonderful grandsons, Kameron Fischer and Braden Luper; her great-granddaughter, Prestley Jayde; her great-grandson/daughter, due in December; her niece, Christine (Ed) Lindholm; her nephews, James David and Donald Chucky Gammett; her beloved aunt and uncle, Bill and Arlean Cooper; several cousins; and her love, Brent Thompson.
