C.O. ALBERTSON DIES IN ACTION
First Lieut. Charles O. Albertson was killed July 3 in action on French soil according to word received from the War Department yesterday by his wife, Mrs. Lyla Gladys Albertson, 2522 South Seventeenth street.
The son of Arch N. Albertson, city patrolman, the 24-year old officer graduated from the Agency Mo. high school as valedictorian of his class and went on to graduate from the St. Joseph Junior College. He entered the teaching profession and attended two summer sessions at Maryville State Teachers College, Maryville, Mo. At the time of his induction in March, 1942, he was principal of the Shepard School, located on rural route 6, near Lake Contrary. His wife was also teaching there at the time but later resigned to be with him while stationed at a camp in Texas.
Lieutenant Albertson,. who was a member of the 311th field artillery of the 79th Division, was inducted at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo., and received his basic training at Ft. Sill. Okla., and for a time after was retained there as instructor for incoming officer candidates. He was then sent to Camp Phillips, Kan., where he was placed in the 79th Division., and just four months ago last night his division entrained for a point of embarkation. He was sent to England and later landed in France on June 16.
Besides his father and wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Wells, in California.
