His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. The Rev. John McIntosh will officiate. Private family burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorials be made to the Community Cancer Center, Normal.
Richard was born April 10, 1928, in Maroa, the son of Harry and Gwendoline Hedger Andes. He married Joanne Graening on Aug. 12, 1951, in Pekin. She passed away Jan. 14, 2012.
Surviving are four children, Pamela (John) Hartman, Corona, N.M.; Richard (Mary) Andes, Celebration, Fla.; Diane (Roger) Andes Finney, Normal; and David (Karen) Andes, Cheshire, Conn.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marge Swartz and Beverly Baker, both of Denton, Texas; and two brothers, Donald (Barbara) Andes, Payson, Ariz., and Larry (Judith) Andes, Aubrey, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George Edwin Andes and Harry Andes Jr.
Richard attended schools at Sibley and Clinton. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three years, and then graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1953. He was employed at State Farm Automobile Insurance Co., Bloomington, and Columbia, Mo., for 39 years and was proud to have been among the earliest pioneers who installed the first electronic computer equipment in the State Farm Automobile Co. He retired in 1990 as an assistant vice president in the Service and Systems Department. Richard organized the Blue Sky Investment Club. It has functioned continuously since 1970.
Richard enjoyed family gatherings, travel, sports and genealogy, and he volunteered at the McLean County Historical Society Museum and the United Way of McLean County. He was a longtime member of and involved with the First United Methodist Church, Normal
