Died on Christmas Day while going to visit his family at the annual Christmas Day breakfast. A loving and caring son, he is survived by two daughters; son; grandsons; granddaughter; mother; brother; niece; nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Burnett Sr. He was a Member of Smith Springs Baptist Church and an active Member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Andrew Jackson Lodge #5. John dedicated his life to helping others, spending seventeen years on the Metro Nashville/Davidson County Police Department before retiring. He was currently employed by Akal Security, a sub-contractor to the U.S. Marshall's service, providing protective detail for Federal Court Judges in the United States District Court in Nashville, TN. A caring and loving father, and doting grandfather, John ("Lieutenant" as affectionately referred to by some family members) enjoyed spending time with his youngest daughter Laura, a scholarship softball player at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR; golfing with Johnny Ray and the guys at Ravenwood; visiting with his mother Mamie; playing X-Box with Jon Franklin; talking to Jim and Tracy on the phone, often several times a day; swimming in his pool with son John, his wife Amanda, and grandsons Preston and Brandon; and discussing the latest trends in technology with son-in-law Jon. John recently talked about how proud he was of the caring and generous nature of church-goers at the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ, where he directed traffic on Sundays.
