Eugene had been sick for sometime and had been up all night the night before. On the morning of his death, he told his wife he had been praying and talking with the Lord all night. He stated things were settled between him and God now. He told her the Lord had sent an Angel and that the Angel had been with him all night. He said, the Angel is still here now and is standing at the foot of the bed. He was tired and he went to get a few hours of sleep. He requested his wife wake him when before family arrived for dinner. When his wife returned to wake him, he had passed away.

As a small child he had Rheumatic Fever and had Rheumatic Heart Disease from it. He had long term medical complications throughout his life.
