Mr. Long was a veteran who served in World War II aboard the Battleship USS New York in the South Pacific.
He was a longtime employee of the Kroger Co., working in Clarksdale and Jackson and was manager of stores in Greenwood, West Point and Vicksburg. He operated his own grocery in Vicksburg before retiring.
He was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette Long, his brothers, John A. (Jean) of Clinton, Jimmy (Grace) of Jackson, and Royce (Shirley) of Memphis, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Agnes Long and a sister Juanita L. Higginbotham.
