2nd Earl of Inchcape. He was the son of James Lyle Mackay, 1st Earl of Inchcape and Jean Paterson Shanks. He married, firstly, Joan Moriarty, daughter of Rt. Hon. John Francis Moriarty, on 22 September 1915. He and Joan Moriarty were divorced in 1931. He married, secondly, Dayang Leonora Margaret Brooke, daughter of Sir Charles Vyner de Windt Brooke and Hon. Sylvia Leonora Brett, on 1 June 1933. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). He was admitted to Inner Temple entitled to practice as a barrister-at-law. He fought in the First World War. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 12th Lancers and Machine Gun Corps. He was director of P&O Steam Navigation Company. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Inchcape [U.K., 1929] on 23 May 1932. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Glenapp, of Strathnaver, co. Sutherland [U.K., 1929] on 23 May 1932. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Inchcape, of Strathnaver, co. Sutherland [U.K., 1924] on 23 May 1932. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Inchcape, of Strathnaver, co.
