Carter, Micheal Burton 11/08/1954 - 02/02/2007
Micheal Burton Carter, 52, of Waldoboro, died peacefully at home on Feb. 2, following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 8, 1954, in Damariscotta, a son of the late Burton E. and Esther F. (Harvey) Carter.
He attended Waldoboro schools and was a graduate of Vinalhaven High School in 1974.
In his younger years he worked as a lobsterman and boat builder. For many years he worked for Keene Narrows Lobster in Bremen. Micheal retired after several years as a bus driver for S.A.D. # 40 in 2001 due to illness.
He loved being in the outdoors, especially on the water, gardening, and spending time at his home away from home on Swans Island. He loved going to lawn sales, traveling and looked forward to trips to Santas Village in New Hampshire with his grandkids. He loved to cook and was well known for his yeast rolls.
Micheal was known as a person with a big heart. When a person was down he could always make them smile with a little friendly teasing.
He was fun loving and outgoing. Micheal had many life long friendships. He would give you the shirt off his back, and will be remembered as a devoted father and loving grandfather. He loved being around people, spending time with family and helping anyone in need.
All who knew him will miss him, and his favorite saying, "fifty cents."
In addition to his parents, Micheal was predeceased by a brother, Paul Carter, in 2001.
Michael is survived by a son, Tony Carter and wife Amanda of Waldoboro; daughter, Trisha Carter and companion Matt of Damariscotta; brothers, Raymond Carter and wife Nancy of Waldoboro, and Spencer Dyer and wife Kristine of Round Pond; sisters, Marie Carter-Stover of Waldoboro, Carolyn Osgood and fiance Mark Augusto, Colette Oxton and husband Timothy, and Kristine Dyer, all of Vinalhaven; aunts, Minnie Harvey of Waldoboro, and Noeta Merry and husband Gordon of Waldoboro; nieces, Amber Stover and Marah Stover of Waldoboro, Ivy and Autumn Oxton and Chelsea and Jennifer Guptill of Vinalhaven, and Rhiannon and Sydney Dyer of Round Pond; nephews, Scott Carver and wife Leslie, Troy Carter, Joseph Stover and Otto Miller and companion Phoebe Boyington, all of Waldoboro, M.J. Augusto and Frank Osgood of Vinalhaven.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family 6-8 p.m., Tues., Feb. 6 at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
Funeral 11 a.m., Wed., Feb. 7 at the funeral home.
Spring Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Swans Island.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.
