BRUNSWICK - Thomas R. Turner 56, of Brunswick, retired from Norton Co. in Watervliet and active in area organizations, including Cub Scouts and Little League, died Friday of natural causes at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after being stricken at his residence. Born in Troy, he attended Troy public schools, and was son of the late Joseph and Nellie Everton Turner. Mr. Turner was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as a communications signalman. He was a past commander of the Trojan Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Troy and active in Central Little League as a manager and player agent for many years. He was a former cub master for Cub Pack 50 of St. Patrick's in Troy and a founder and director of the former Clovers Drum and Bugle Corps. He worked for Norton Co. for 30 years, retiring in May 1973, because of ill health.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elinor M. McLoughlin, two daughters, Linda Bradshaw of Clifton Park and Cheryl Bourgault of Brunswick: a son, Thomas F. Turner of Cohoes; four sisters, Jesse Moeske of Rensselaer, Marion McLoughlin, Emma Goodman and Maude Gundrum, all of Troy; a brother Joseph Turner of Wynantskill; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday from Eugene M. LcLoughlin Funeral Home, 3300 Sixth Ave. in Troy, and at 10:15 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
