Miss Black had never married. She had spent her early life in Greene County. The family moved to Texas where her father, a well-known oil field worker, was employed.
Surviving are one sister, Kathryn Black Pester, of Brownwood, Texas; one brother, Jim Black, of San Antonio, Texas; and several cousins in Greene County. One sister and two brothers are deceased.

Services for Miss Mary Ellen Black, 60, will be at 2 pm Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery with Rev. James Aaron officiating.
Rosary for Miss Black will be said at 8 pm today at Wright-Morelock Funeral Home.
Miss Black died at 1:20 pm Saturday in the Brownwood Community Hospital following a long illness. Born Nov 11, 1911 in Pennsylvania, she had lived in Brownwood since 1940, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
