John was drafted into the US Army.
Arriving in Vietnam 20 December 1967 John was assigned to B Battery, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery, I Field Force, USARV. John was a passenger aboard a truck that was traveling on Highway QL-19 to the Suoi Doi
Airfield when the truck hit a hostile road mine, 9 kilometers east of Suoi Doi. He was med-evac and died at the hospital, as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body.
Survived by his mother, Antonia M Acosta and his daughter, Christina Acosta both of 209 Tallsman Dr, Folsom, California and his 5 sisters, Lilly,
Eleanor, Terrie, Rosalie and Dawn Acosta all of Folsom, California.
