John Wendt of Van Dyne Expires At 80
Formerly President Of Poy Sippi Bank; Farmer In Area
John E. Wendt, 80, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home in Van Dyne, following a brief illness.
He was born April 4, 1885, in Auroraville, Waushara County, the son of Theodore and Wilhelmina Timm Wendt. He married Emma Schrader in 1907 and she died in 1920. In 1921 he married Amanda Schneider and she died Nov. 16, 1961.
Mr. Wendt had been in the retail business in Poy Sippi for 14 years and was president of the Farmer's State Bank of Poy Sippi. He had farmed for 10 years near Brandon and a number of years in the Town of Friendship. He moved to Van Dyne in 1955. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Van Dyne.
Survivors include four sons, Harold and Robert, Van Dyne, Freeland, Town of Friendship, and Chief Master Sgt. Alvin Wendt, Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Longston, Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Donald Patterson, Milwaukee; 27 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Hillman, Ludington, Mich., and Mrs. Adeline Schmidt and Mrs. Paul Muschinski, Oshkosh; and two brothers, William Wendt, Altadena, Calif, and Carl Wendt, Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by three sons and one brother.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the Candlish Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. Waldemar Weissgerber officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. The body will be moved to the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and lie in state until the time of the service
