Charles "Charlie" "Chuck" Cyril Superka, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away at his home Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, while surrounded by his loving wife, H. Jane (Herr) Superka, and daughter, Jean.

Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Catasauqua, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Charles and Anna Pauline (Polchik) Superka.

Charles first came to Maryland when he began work at a Conservation Corps Camp in Boonsboro, Md. There, he met the love of his life, Jane. He later moved his family to Hagerstown, where he worked for Pangborn Corp. until his retirement.

He was an active, respected member and past secretary and president of the Boonsboro Lions Club. Charles was also a member and former trustee in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown. In his earlier days, he was often seen demonstrating his skills on the tennis courts of Pangborn Park.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jane Superka; two daughters, Cheryl Robertson of California and Jean Weitzel of Virginia; and one sister, Anna Mangino of Allentown, Pa. He is also survived by four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Superka.

Charles was a gentle, dedicated man to his family and Catholic faith, and will be deeply missed. He was and still is truly a gift.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Collin Poston will officiate. Charles will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Prayers will be offered at 5:30 p.m.
