FLORENCE – DeLyla Irene Lewis Dishman, 90, of Florence, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at her home.

DeLyla was born Nov. 25, 1922, at home in Ellingston, S.D. She was the third of five children born to Florence Isabell Schuchardt Lewis and Glen Magel Lewis. Her siblings Harriet, Guinevere, Vera and Glen D. have all preceded her in death.

DeLyla grew up with fond memories of her loving, extended family on the big farms of South Dakota. The examples of hard work, sacrifice and love of family were all ingrained in her early in life. DeLyla was a very principled woman and lived her life as a hardworking, honest and always dependable person.

Lyla was fun loving and liked to laugh; she looked for the humor in things. She also had a practical, no-nonsense side of her personality. She was always so grateful to family, friends and neighbors who would lend her a helping hand along her way.

In 1945, she married Clifton R. Dishman and they raised their family in Missoula until 1963, when they moved to Florence and built their own home. Big family gatherings have always been a part of that home and DeLyla's tradition. She always supported each of her children in their endeavors. Her real passion was gardening and baking. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, horseback riding, bowling and playing darts.

Her marriage ended in 1982, but she stayed and kept up the ranch she so loved. She joined the workforce in 1968 as a cook at Florence School then at Tripps Truck Stop for 13 years. She pursued her dream and at age 60, opened Granny's Bakery in her home. She was very successful for 14 years and her pies, cinnamon rolls and sweet touch will be remembered by many!

DeLyla is survived by all eight of her children, Kenneth Stenjhem of Washington, Peg L. Knight of Texas, Patricia Freese of Montana, Joan Lucke of Washington , Ronald Dishman of Nevada, Erma Catterlin of Arizona, Roger Dishman of Montana and Shawna Hofbauer of Montana. She has 22 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.

A memorial is planned for a later date.
