Feb 15, 1990 - Humboldt Independent - Funeral services for Edward D. Melavin, 75, Chicago, IL, formerly of the Livermore area, were held Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore, with burial in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery there. He died Monday, Feb. 5, at the Lakeside Veteran's Hospital in Chicago. The Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore was in charge of the arrangements, with the Rev. G.R. Wingert officiating. Military graveside rites were performed by the American Legion of Livermore.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Michel of Wheaton, IL; sisters, Lucille Gronbach of Livermore, Loretta Callahan of Des Plains, IL, and Josephine Torgeson of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 1949.

Edward D. Melavin was born Feb. 6, 1914, in Livermore. He graduated from Livermore High School and went to Chicago, where he was employed by the National Tea Food Stores.

He married Vivian Anderson in Hot Springs, AR. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific, and after his discharge, he returned to the National Tea Food Store where he served as an accountant. He retired in 1977. He was a member of the American Legion of Livermore.
