Lawrence was the son of Joseph and Mary Melavin. He did not marry.


April 2, 1948 - Humboldt Republican - Funeral services for Lawrence Melavin, who passed away in California after several months of illness was held at Sacred Heart church on Wednesday morning. Father James Duhigg officiated. Pall bearers were Tom McKenna, Nick Altman, Alfred Freilinger, Pete Sweeney, Frank Devine and James Powers. Burial took place at Mount Calvary cemetery with the Legionnaires in charge.

Lawrence Melavin, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Melavin was born on the Melavin farm east of town March 5, 1899. He grew to manhood here and attended the Livermore schools. He spent several months in World War II. After his discharge he made his home in California.

He is survived by four brothers: Bernard of Livermore; Joseph of Humboldt; Elwood of Chicago, Illinois; and Donald in Nevada; and three sisters: Lorotta Melavin of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Josephine Torkelson of Haninntown; and Mrs. Elmer Gronbach.

Relataives from away attending the services were Mr and Mrs McCaffery from Emmetsburg; Don O'Neil and sons, Clarence and Francis of Blue Earth, MN; Mr and Mrs Maessy and Florence of Fort Dodge; and Mr and Mrs Charley Noonan of Algona.
