Ruth M Wells, 93, of Binghamton, NY formerly of Endwell and Windsor, died peacefully with family at her side on October 10, 2102. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Bob, and first husband of 5 years, Paul, who died in the Battle of the Bulge. Ruth was the youngest and last survivor of 14 children. An athlete and basketball player during her youth, she was Captain of the King Ferry Central School Girls' Basketball Team when it won the NYS Championship. She remained an avid basketball fan throughout her life. A Veteran of WWII, Ruth joined the US Marines Corps following the death of her first husband. Since 1948, Ruth was a member of the American Legion and a member of Post 1596 since 1998. She was a past member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Broome County Last Women's Club. She worked for IBM, Endicott, NY and retired from the Windsor Central School District after 18 years. Ruth had many notable attributes: kindness, empathy, integrity and humbleness were but a few. Her generosity was exemplary; she would give anything and expect nothing in return. Her dry sense of humor was ever present and delighted many. A superb listener, she was blessed with several close friends throughout her life. She found enjoyment in many ways including gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and playing the piano. Ruth was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Barbara; son-in-law Chuck; her grandchildren, JJ and Branden; great-grandson Christopher; sister-in-Law Beverly; and several nieces and nephews. While a resident of Good Shepherd-Fairview Home during the past 10 years, she and her family have been especially grateful for the continual devotion of Sandra Grausgruber and her family. Ruth's family would also like to acknowledge the care and affection she received by many of the dedicated staff at Good Shepherd, and staff and volunteers at Lourdes Hospice. A Funeral Mass officiated by Father Thomas Hobbes will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 20, 20112 in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 594 Kent St, Windsor, NY. The family will receive friends at a luncheon following the Mass. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are directed by Wm R. Chase & Son Funeral Home. Port Dickinson. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to Good Shepherd-Fairview Living Care Fund, 80 Fairview Ave, Binghamton, NY 13904. The family can be emailed directly: [email protected] to share memories and condolences.
