Oscar Ray Rider
(October 10, 1941 - December 14, 2012)

Oberlin- Mr. Oscar Ray Rider, age 71, passed away after a brief battle of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Oberlin Baptist Church. The funeral will be officiated by Rev. Lloyd Carroll. Burial will follow in Oaklin Springs Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish/Oberlin Chapel beginning Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 11-9pm. Visitation will continue Monday, December 17, 2012 at 8am until time of service.

Oscar Rider served our country as a U.S. Marine. He provided for his family as a skilled welder for the majority of his career and later retired in heavy equipment transportation. In his retirement, along with his wife, he enjoyed participating in the disaster relief ministry.

Oscar was an active member of Topsy Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband of 48 years, a loving father, and grandfather. Ray enjoyed a variety of hobbies including hunting, gardening, and camping. He was also an avid LSU and Saints Fan! But the joy of his life was spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Rider of Topsy; two sons, Kenneth Rider and wife Kimberly of Kinder, John "Randy" Rider and wife Shelly of Topsy; two daughters, Cassie Caesar of Dallas, TX; Carla Hayes and husband Randolph of Covington; one sister, Bobbie Brown of Kinder; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
