Steven Douglas Abel, 61, of Gering, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 in Bayard. Funeral services will be Dec. 17, in Scottsbluff. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery.
Steven was born Feb. 22, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Walter and Elsie M. (Feil) Abel. He grew up in Gering and graduated from Gering High School in 1969. He was baptized in Hope Congregational Church in Bayard and in Calvary Chapel in Salt Lake City, Utah. Steve received his University education in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering Management at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., University of Colorado – Denver, and University of Utah at Salt Lake City, Utah. Steve worked for numerous aerospace companies and on most every military fighter, aircraft and rocket program including F14, F15, F16, SDI Star Wars, Minuteman Missile, Titan II, III, IV and IVB, Space Shuttle and Global Hawk. He was senior quality Assurance Engineer III/ Field Customer representative. Steve received numerous awards and certificates for production and quality. Steve's hobbies included fishing, drawing, firearms, raising and training dogs, photography, computers, flying, woodworking, gourmet food and traveling. He loved the mountains of Colorado and the ocean in California. His motto was "Life is its own Answer." Survivors include his father, Walter Abel; niece, Melissa (Robert) Price; grand nephews, Robert Price IV, Kevin Price, and Aaron Price.
Preceding Steven in death was his mother Elsie M. Abel and brother Kevin Eugene Abel.
