Mrs. Dalton was one of old Iredell's remarkable women. Well born and well bred, she was above the average in many ways. Intellectually bright, with a fine memory and a love of learning. In her early womanhood she became a recognized authority. She was singularly fortunate in two of her childhood friends, her pastor, Dr. Jas. Hall, and her teacher, Peter S. Ney.
Her father's house was Dr. Hall's first stopping place in his numerous trips to Philadelphia and she remembered him well. Once he brought her a pair of red slippers in his riding chair on his return from Philadelphia. When the history of Dr. Hall's life was written much of it was given by Mrs. Dalton, and certainly her life was a beautiful example of his work for the Master.
The house where Mrs. Dalton was born in 1814 was later used for a school house, her father having built, in 1815, one of the best houses in the county.
