Rachel D. Bodkin, daughter of William and Rachel Bodkin, was born near St. Mary's, Ohio, April 2, 1850, aged 66 years 7 months and 8 days. Died Nov. 10, 1916.
She was married to Newton B. Long, Nov. 3, 1870, and to this union were born two children, Melville A. and Elvie L. Long. She is also survived by her husband, one sister and one brother.
Mrs. Long came with her husband, son and daughter to New Mexico in 1907, and has lived with the family near Kermit ever since. She united with the church in her girlhood days and lived a devoted christian life, until she quietly slept away to be with Jesus in that better world. Her devotion to her family was seldom equalled, and perhaps never excelled. To her only son and daughter, she was mother, sister and confidential friend.
During her life in St. Mary's, Ohio, her membership was with the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and she was always a willing and faithful worker, holding from time to time various offices, and very often presided as leader in the different departments of the church she loved so well.
Mrs. Long leaves a host of friends here in N. M. as well as in the old Ohio home.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L. L. Thurston, and assisted by the Rev. Schroder, a friend and neighbor of the family. The music was furnished by a quartette from the home neighborhood.
