John West was the son of George West (1826-1869) and Sarah Scullion (1832-1903). He married the widow of William Arnold Emerson, Susan Ann McKie on Oct. 4, 1875 at Ste Foy, Quebec, Canada. They had a son George Archibald West who was born Dec. 20, 1876 at Ste Foy, Quebec. Susan died on Mar. 27, 1877 at Ste Foy from complications of child birth. John's 2nd wife was Mary Sarah Cooney, daughter of Patrick Cooney and Catherine Halpin. John and Mary were married Oct. 3, 1883 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They had 6 children together.
