Joseph was the son of Samuel Wilson of probably Oxford County, Maine and Lucy (Wilson) Wilson of probably Oxford County, Maine. Lucy and Samuel were married about 1832 in probably Bethel, Oxford County, Maine. Lucy and Samuel had seven children. They were: Edmund Wilson was born in 1834 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Joseph S. Wilson was born on 08 July 1834 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Anna E. Wilson was born in 1838 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Bannaster N. Wilson (# 102314469) was born in February 1840 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Elizabeth Wilson was born in 1844 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine; Ransom Wilson was born in 1847 in Coos County, New Hampshire; and Emeline Wilson was born in 1849 in Coos County, New Hampshire.

Joseph married Mary A. Bennett on 19 May 1864 in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine. Mary and Joseph had four children. They were: Ashton O. Wilson was born on 27 July 1868 in Probably Second College Grant, Coos County, New Hampshire; Cuvere I. Wilson was born in 1872 in Magalloway Plantation, Oxford County, Maine; Hortense J. Wilson was born on 15 April 1875 in Wilsons Mills, Oxford County, Maine; and Elnora B. Wilson was born on 19 September 1879 in Wentworth Location, Coos County, New Hampshire.

Note: Mary and Joseph Wilson. Joseph S. was born in Bethel, Maine, in 1825, the son of Samuel and Lucy Wilson. He married Mary, daughter of Frederick and Polly Bennett of Newry, Maine. They first lived in Magalloway, moving to Wilson's Mills around 1875. David Sturtevant gave them an acre of land adjoining the Magalloway church and they moved back to Magalloway where Joseph built a home and a small blacksmith shop. He carried on a successful business for as long as he was able to work at it. He was one of the old time fiddle players and played for many a dance. In church, he and his wife, Mary, always led the singing. He would pull out his jews harp, strike the pitch and everyone would follow. Joseph died in Magalloway on October 22,1908, at the age of 73. Aunt Mary was a noted midwife and a good neighbor to all, especially in time of sickness. She died in Magalloway on January 29, 1917. They are both buried in Wilson's Mills. Their children were Cuvier, born in Magalloway in 1872. He was a guide. He died in Magalloway on August 4, 1952, at the age of 80 and was buried in Wilson's Mills. Hortense was born in Wilson's Mills in 1875 and married Calvin Fox. Elnora was born in Wentworth Location on September 19, 1879. She married Archie Bennett.
